the cold analogy

Alright, so I was sitting in church last week and had a realization: having a cold is like sin.

Sounds weird, right? But here's the reasoning....

I have had a cold for over a week and a half now. Sunday, I was sitting in church literally holding my breathe and waiting for the second the service ended so I could get out of there!! Because my nose was running, my eyes watering, but most importantly I HAD to cough.

So here's some facts: when you have it in your life, it is foremost on your mind no matter what you are doing.  It takes over what used to be free, and clouds it up so that you can't take a deep breathe and relax.  It stifles you.  You can't think clearly.  You don't go about your life normally, you don't hang out with your friends. You try to act normal and carefree so that no one knows how sick you are and gets judgmental (this part Mom thought up).

All that is how it is when you have a cold, but also when you have sin.  You don't want to cough and sniff because people will be afraid of getting sick themselves, so they distance you. When you have sin, you don't want anyone to know because you don't want them to think less of you, so you either hide it from them by acting casual, or just by not hanging out at all.  It overpowers every thought: I HAVE to blow my nose, I HAVE to ----- whatever. As soon as it takes hold, it starts to move into your lungs, into your breathing, your life.  A cold makes it hard to breathe, makes you tired, and wishing that you were never born. Sin stifles you so that you don't have the Breathe of Life, it makes you want to hide and impairs your judgment.

Think about it.
